First, let me explain my absence,
Right after I started our blog, I left home for 2.5 months to (long term substitute) teach in another state. Chickadee went with me and attended pre-school while I was teaching while my husband stayed home to continue in his job. We traveled back and forth most weekends to visit each other. While it was definitely a long time be gone, I much enjoyed being back teaching in the classroom after 2 years off and fell in love with the Kindergarten class I had. They were darling little princesses and princes and I really enjoyed my time with them!
Now, back in the swing of things, we are gearing up to start school next week here!! Chickadee and I will be beginning our first "real" year of homeschooling as she will be using Kindergarten curriculum! I am excited about the curriculum we have chosen and feel that it is what God wants us to use.
Here is a quick break down of what we will be using for the 2013-2014 school year:
Math: Horizons Math K and Daily Calendar Time (as well as a LOT of hands on math in the kitchen and math games I have from my previous years of teaching public school.)
Reading: All About Reading Level 1, lots of easy readers, and sight word sentences level K from Confessions of a Homeschooler and Reading the Easy way (sight words work) from 123Homeschool4me.com, we will also have Read Aloud time daily.
Handwriting: A Reason For Handwriting K book and everyday writing experiences (writing letters, cards, etc.)
Language Arts/Creative Writing: Writeshop Primary- Book A
Science: Elemental Science- Exploring Series, as well as Science games & Science readers
Social Studies: We will be doing different unit studies to learn basic social studies ideas (ex: community helpers, me on a map, families, all about me, etc.) We are also using A Berenstain Bears curriculum from Enchanted Homeschooling Mom
Bible: We will be using the What's in the Bible series as well as We Choose Virtues
OTHER: We are also using Homeschool Art Studio- Kindergarten, Family Time Fitness, local Co-op classes, and field trips.
That's all I have for now. My next post will include pictures of the school room my husband built for me and chickadee while we were gone!! :) It's definitely an upgrade from the small bedroom/office/school room we were using!
Until then, enjoy life's adventures!
